These accessories are available in many different garden supplies stores and home improvement stores. They are also available in a lot of on line shopping sites. But for a personalized wind chime, you can also make them on your own. You can make your own bamboo wind chimes, glass wind chimes, ceramic wind chimes and flatware wind chimes. Here are some steps that you can follow to make two common wind chimes namely bamboo wind chimes and flatware wind chimes.

Bamboo Wind Chime

  1. Obtain a few pieces of bamboo.
  2. Cut these bamboo into several pieces.
  3. Drill two holes on one end of each piece.
  4. Put a string through the hole to tie it to the hanger later.
  5. Strike a bamboo piece with another and listen to the sound. If it does not create a pleasing sound, trim it shorter until you get the sound you want.
  6. Repeat step 5 with the other pieces but make sure that they are decreasing in length.
  7. Hang them on a hanger made from another bamboo piece or on a piece of hardwood.

Flatware Wind Chime

  1. Select several pieces of flatware in your kitchen. Fancy shaped fork or bread knife will be good.
  2. Select a good hanger. Suggested pieces are egg beater with the handle up, cheese grater, a pan cover with unique design and the removable blades of a blender.
  3. Tie a string on each of the flatware you have selected.
  4. On a flat surface arrange the flatware side by side until you arrive at a pleasing arrangement.
  5. Tie the flatware on the hanger in a circular manner according to the arrangement you have made in the previous step.
  6. For the clapper, you can use a soup ladle or a dessert spoon with a long handle.
  7. Hang the clapper in the center.

You are now ready to hang these garden wind chimes in your garden. Bamboo wind chimes will be good near the patio. If you have an evergreen tree as a focal point, you can also hang it there. Flatware wind chimes will be good near the kitchen entrance or where you will have your barbeque grill.
